Lasagna

We love pasta in our family. Lasagna is always a hit at any get together, especially with the children.

I have watched several educational shows over the years that show how different types of pasta are made.

There are several gadgets that allow you to make your own pasta.

Although, I am fascinated by them I never had the desire to purchase them and try making it myself.

I prefer to buy pre-made noodles and use my time for other cooking or sewing projects.

In our family, spicy foods are not well tolerated.

Most of our cooking is tasty without being overly spicy.

Basic Lasagna

6 large noodles

1 lb ground beef

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese

30 oz garlic and herb spaghetti sauce

Cook noodles according to box directions.

Brown and crumble ground beef.

Mix beef and spaghetti sauce together.

In a 9 x 13 baking dish, spread a thin layer of beef and sauce.

Place a single layer of noodles(3) over the beef and sauce.

Spread a layer of beef and sauce over the noodles.

Evenly spread 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1 cup of cheddar cheese.

Place another single layer of noodles(remaining 3) over the cheese.

Spread a layer of beef and sauce over the noodles.

Evenly spread remaining mozzarella cheese on top.

Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake for approximately 35-45 minutes.

Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

I like to make two pans and freeze one for later use.

Variations:

A layer of 16 oz of ricotta cheese, additional noodles and beef sauce can be added as a middle layer if desired.

The type of cheese(s) used can be varied.

The type of spaghetti sauce can be varied.

Most pasta dishes taste better the 2nd day, after the flavors have a chance to blend.

In some cases, pasta dishes don't last that long at our house.
